Last Friday, December 7, 2012, a group of eighth graders from various private schools arrived at Peninsula for their first time. They were assigned a buddy whom they would follow around to class. In addition, they had a chance to experience what a public high school was like. However, this was not just a regular high school; it was Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. That meant happy welcoming students, music and fun class competitions at lunch, and cool EOP bulletins.
The importance of Shadow Day was to provide incoming freshmen a chance to experience high school on a regular school day at Peninsula. It was also a chance for the students decide which high school they should attend in the upcoming fall.
The students had an opportunity to see the fun classroom activities, meet our ASB officers, and participate in all of the cool programs on campus. Their buddies, freshmen and sophomores, led them around campus showing them how great a school Peninsula is. However, this is not the only opportunity for eighth graders to see what PVPHS is all about. Later, Peninsula will host an Open House, where the incoming freshmen can go into the classes that they are interested in and look at all of the clubs offered here at school.
